My name is Agnes but most people call me Aggie.
Welcome to this space celebrating food, painting and drawing.
My life centres around food. My daily routine consists of collecting recipes, sourcing quality ingredients, buying fruit and vegetables at farmer’s markets, purchasing staples at health food shops/specialty stores and on-line, juicing, blending, chopping, prepping and cooking. These practices connect me with food’s power to heal, nurture, comfort, sustain and satiate. Each meal offers an opportunity to make something wonderful. My focus is to meet my body’s present physical and emotional needs.
Painting and drawing allow me to express and investigate what is living in me. The Kitchen and studio are my sanctuaries to make, experiment and learn. Cooking and painting share many qualities - colour, texture, a somatic, felt sense, chemical fusion, emotional resonance and visual appeal. While cooking is transitory and painting material, to make both requires many of the same skills and sensibilities.
In 2016, due to heath concerns, I decided to heal through a radical change in my diet. In order to persevere, I set my intention to make ALL my meals delicious, satisfying and exciting while eating healing foods, eliminating those that cause me harm and keeping my fats very low.
I cook with vegetables, leafy greens, fresh and dried herbs, pure spices, fruits, wild foods, beans, nuts, seeds, brown/wild rice and GF oats. Occasionally, I incorporate wild caught seafood.
I do not eat eggs, dairy, gluten, grains (with the exception of brown/wild rice and GF oats), meat, refined sugars, processed oils, soy, corn, peanuts, vinegars, caffeine and preservatives of any kind.
I make beloved dishes with new ingredients, re-create my favourites from countries I have lived in and continually experiment with new cuisines from cultures around the world. I look for new ways of eating and drinking; there is always more to learn and try. My goal is to make every snack, beverage and meal a celebration of life!
As everyone’s nutritional needs and preferences vary, I post frameworks rather than ‘recipes’ that invite and encourage countless adaptations or spin offs.

The House That Never Stopped Giving, Acrylic, canvas, collage on board, 119 x 89cm, 2019

I make paintings, drawings and collaged works on paper and board. My paintings and drawings are abstract arrangements of colour, tone, line and shape to create an illusion of space and/or flatness. I construct spatial relationships and play with visual expectations. The compositions, depicting recognisable motifs, seek to engage the viewer’s memory, feelings, experiences and imagination.
I begin with a chosen motif that interests me - something attracting my attention and curiosity. I observe and draw from life to find a composition. A partnership of giving and receiving begins until a resolved, visual image emerges.
Craftmanship lies at the centre of everything I make. My physical touch is evident in all stages of my work from making boards, building frames, stretching canvas, collaging, painting and drawing. I use various techniques including painting, drawing and collage.
I studied at the New York Studio School. I finished my Bachelor of Fine Art Honours Class I Degree and Masters of Fine Art Degree in Painting at the National Art School in Sydney, Australia. I earned the Outstanding Academic Achievement Award and Reg Richardson Travel Scholarship.
After leaving art school, I received an Ian Potter Cultural Trust Grant. I was a finalist for the William Fletcher Foundation Rome Residency in 2014 and 2016. I completed residencies at the Cite Internationale des Arts (Paris) and Bundanon Trust (Australia).
My works are owned by ArtBank, Saint Vincents Hospital, Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation and private collectors.
