I spent years cooking brown rice in a pot on a gas stove, tinkering with the heat to get it as low as I could only to find the flame extinguished and my rice stopped cooking! Say good-bye to all hassles when you use an instant pot (or pressure/rice cooker). It is so easy and once you turn it on, you can forget about it and you get perfect rice every time!
I have a 5.7 litre or middle sized instant pot. When cooking rice, I need to cook 2 cups of rice at a time. It makes about 5-6 servings.
I can only eat limited amounts of rice so I like to freeze what I do not use for another time.
If you have a small instant pot, you can make 1 cup of rice.
Instant Pot Brown Rice
Ingredients
2 cups organic short brown rice
2 1/2 cups filtered water
Method
Take out your instant pot and place it on a clean, empty counter near an electrical outlet with plenty of space around it on all sides.
Take out the inner pot. Place the rice in the pot, fill with cold water and rub the rice, Drain and repeat this two more times until the water is clear.
Empty the rice into a strainer and let it sit for 15 minutes (in summer) and 30 minutes (in winter).
Place 2 1/2 cups filtered water in the inner pot and fit it inside the instant pot. After the rice has drained, add to the instant pot.
Secure the lid, close the pressure value and turn on. Press the high pressure setting, set the time for 20 minutes, turn off the keep warm setting and leave the pot to do its magic. When the pot beeps to indicate the cooking has finished, allow it to naturally release for at least 20-30 minutes.
Turn pressure value to open and carefully open the lid. You will have perfectly cooked rice, hot and ready to eat! Enjoy!
